I’ve Performed Thousands of Hair Transplants. Here’s Everything You Need to Know…

Surgeons perform a hair transplant on a man. Gloved hands, tools, and bandaged head are visible. The scene is focused and clinical, conveying precision.

After decades of practicing dermatology and performing more than 5,000 hair restoration procedures, I’ve seen every kind of hair loss and every so-called solution. From overpromised results in TV ads to low-cost transplants abroad, I’ve heard every story.

But what hasn’t changed is this. People want natural results, honest information, and care from someone they can trust.

If you’re losing your hair, you’ve probably considered pills, creams, or even flying to another country for a procedure. Before you make any major decisions, I want to give you the truth about what works, what doesn’t, and how we do things differently at HAIRMD.

What Most Clinics and Online Ads Won’t Tell You

1. Not All Hair Transplants Are Equal... Especially Overseas

The “medical tourism” model looks appealing at first. Some clinics in Turkey and elsewhere advertise full procedures with hotel stays for under $2,000. But those ads leave out a lot of important details.

• In many of these clinics, surgeries are performed by unlicensed technicians, not trained physicians.

• There is little to no pre-op medical screening, and post-op follow-up is often nonexistent.

• Clinics push high graft counts to maximize profits, regardless of what’s medically appropriate.

• If something goes wrong, you’re far from home with no accountability or recourse.

I’ve personally treated patients who went overseas and returned with poor results, unnatural hairlines, or scarring. Some lost more hair than they had before surgery. Fixing a bad transplant is far more difficult than doing it right the first time.

This is your face. Your identity. Your confidence. You deserve better than a rushed, one-size-fits-all procedure.

2. The Graft Count Game: What They Don’t Want You to Know

Another area where clinics mislead patients is with graft counts. Many places charge by the graft, which creates a financial incentive to split grafts into smaller units to inflate numbers. This can lead to weak coverage, a patchy appearance, and unnecessary trauma to the donor area.

At HAIRMD, we do the opposite. Especially with FUT (strip surgery), we often combine follicular units to create thicker, denser-looking results. Instead of focusing on raw numbers, we focus on natural appearance and long-term success.

Some clinics push procedures involving 3,000 to 4,000 grafts in one session. That sounds impressive, but most patients don’t need that much, and in many cases, it’s not even possible to place that many grafts safely. As I often say, “Where are we going to put them?”

The right amount of grafts depends on your head shape, hairline, donor availability, and your goals. Our job is to build a plan that fits your anatomy, not a marketing script.

3. Most Pills, Creams, and Gimmicks Don’t Work... and Some Can Make Things Worse

Let’s talk about the over-the-counter products you’ve seen online.

• Hair regrowth shampoos

• DHT-blocking conditioners

• Herbal serums

• Minoxidil foams or drops

Most of these products are either under-dosed, untested, or both. At best, they offer minimal improvement. At worst, they can cause real harm: scalp irritation, inflammation, allergic reactions, and increased shedding.

Even proven medications like minoxidil and finasteride need to be used under medical supervision. These are real drugs with real side effects, and they’re not right for everyone.

That’s why we created HAIRMDL®, our own dermatologist-formulated topical solution.

It’s customized, carefully balanced, and used only when appropriate. Because hair loss is not cosmetic — it’s medical.

4. Hair Loss Should Be Treated by a Hair Specialist... Not Just Any Doctor

You wouldn’t go to a dentist for Botox, and you shouldn’t go to a plastic surgeon, ER doctor, or OB-GYN for hair restoration.

Hair loss should be treated by someone who is trained in dermatology. As a board-certified dermatologist, I studied skin, hair, and scalp biology extensively in medical school, residency, and throughout my 30-year career. It’s what I do every day — not a side service.

Many other doctors offer hair restoration as a way to expand their services. But how many transplants do they actually perform each week? Ask them.

At HAIRMD, we perform at least three procedures per week, every single week. We don’t dabble in hair restoration — we specialize in it.

Why Our Process at HAIRMD Is Different

When you come to HAIRMD, here’s what you can expect.

• You’ll meet directly with me, not a consultant or sales rep.

• I’ll review your medical history, examine your scalp, and talk through your options.

• If surgery is appropriate, I’ll perform it personally. Start to finish.

• Your care team will include Registered Nurses and trained Technicians, not just assistants.

• We’ll support you every step of the way, including after the procedure is done.

Yes, our costs are higher than some of the clinics you’ll find online. That’s because we pay for top talent, quality equipment, and proper safety protocols. You get one head of hair. It’s worth doing it right the first time.

My Approach to Hair Restoration

We offer both FUT (strip surgery) and FUE (individual follicle extraction), including robotic-assisted techniques using the ARTAS system. Each has its place. I recommend the method that will deliver the best outcome based on your needs.

Not every patient needs surgery. Many benefit from medications, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), or low-level laser therapy. Some do best with a staged approach.

We don’t rush you into a one-size-fits-all plan. Every treatment is based on your unique pattern of loss, goals, and long-term health.

If You’re Ready, I’m Here

There’s a lot of misinformation in this industry. A lot of pressure. A lot of promises.

I built HAIRMD to give patients clarity. To deliver care that’s honest, safe, and results-driven. No gimmicks. No inflated graft counts. No cutting corners.

If you’re ready to stop guessing and start treating your hair loss with real medical support, I invite you to book a consultation. We’ll talk openly, examine your scalp, and build a plan that works.

No sales tactics. Just real answers, and care you can trust.
